Christie's
handwashing device
How
the hand washing device works:
The
rain water gathers in the top of the compartment. Then
the person sticks their hands in the handhole and pulls
the plug. The water falls down onto the persons hands
and the remaining water goes into the bottom compartment.
Then the water can be used to water gardens.
Note:
You should save up buckets of water so the device can
be refilled.

·
Effectiveness
The
principal appears reasonable but one hand would be needed
to pull the plug, thus a small hole so that water drains
slowly into the bucket would enable both hands to get
some water.
If
the top compartment is kept small it will be effective
in controlling the use of water.
·
Durability
There
is insufficient info about materials and construction
to comment.
·
User-friendliness
A
good user friendly design.
·
Communication
Nice
and clearly presented. Some more information about the
design would be helpful for construction.

Effectiveness
The concept is good in that it will allow water to be
released by foot pedal, however there is no design information
about how the valve will be operated by the foot pedal.
How will soap be released?

Stuff
you need:
1.
Two teams- batting and fielding.
2. Baseball bat (but any bat or racket will do.)
3. A softball ball (or any that won't hurt too much when
hit by it.)
4. 4 Blue bases and 10 Red bases
Rules:
1.
3 strikes and you're out.
2. 4 bad pitches you walk to first base.
3. 3 fouls and you're out.
4. If you hit the ball and it gets caught, you're out.
5. If you are on a red base, the ball gets back to the
pitcher, and everyone has stopped, the pitcher can aim
and throw the ball at you. If it hits you you're out.
6. If you are on a blue base you are safe.
7. Three people in hospital its side away.
8. When you are running you must touch the BLUE bases
with your hand to get cleaning soap, the red bases you
should try and avoid, because they are unhygienic.
9. The ball is a germy disease.
10. When you are going to throw the ball at a person on
a red base, you must be on the contagious base.
Terms:
Strike:
When you take a swing at the ball and miss.
Pitch: a throw.
Fouls: when you hit the ball behind base 1 and
3.
Out: you must sit out from playing in the hospital
wing.
Safe: can not get out until you move off the base
or your team gets out.
Soap: cleans off germs.
Unhygienic: you have a chance of getting sick.
Contagious: the base which you throw the germ at
the unhygienic base.

Really
cool idea. Perhaps you need something other than a hospital
because many of the PNG kids will have no experience of
a hospital.
A
good idea about the running away from germs and using
soap in the game.

GERMS,
GERMS, GERMS by Saleem and Sasha

Saleem
wakes up and goes to the toilet.
DON'T FORGET TO WASH YOUR HANDS.

The
dog runs up and Saleem gives it a pat.
Then he decides to go and make some breakfast.
DON'T FORGET TO WASH YOUR HANDS.

At
school Saleem goes to eat a sandwich for lunch.
DON'T FORGET TO WASH YOUR HANDS.

Saleem
gets home from school and offers to help prepare some
dinner.
DON'T FORGET TO WASH YOUR HANDS.

Saleem
goes to eat his dinner.
DON'T FORGET TO WASH YOUR HANDS
Germs
are all around us. They are on our animals, on the toilet,
on our pens and pencils. Everywhere.
So we need to make sure we wash our hands so that we don't
get sick. We need to wash our hands before we prepare
food, before we eat food, and after we go to the toilet.
So remember
DON'T FORGET TO WASH YOUR HANDS!!

A
good idea but the images would have to show PNG people
and products and buildings.
How
would this idea of yours be used in the field?

Jimbo:
Once upon a time there was a little hand called Johnny
who didn't wash himself. He touched lots of things which
gave him lots of bacteria. At school no one wanted to
play with him because he smelt and he was dirty. He touched
things like the toilet, played in the mud, picked his
nose and many more yucky things. After a while lots of
germs came to visit him.
Germs
enter
Little
Johnny's playing in the mud with his mum standing by watching
and all the germs come over. Then the germs introduce
them self.

the Typhoid: Hi im Timmy the typhoid.

Timmy: If you get me I can make you get fevers.
Johnny: Oh that's not good.
Katy the cholera: HI HI HI I'm Katy the cholera

Johnny: Well lucky I can't catch you.
The mother enters.
Mum: Well actually you can and anyone can if they
wash themselves every day.
Johnny: but I don't know how to wash.
Mum: It's easy! You just need to get soap and water and
wash all over and make sure you dry properly.
Johnny: Can you help me please.
Mum: Sure.
Johnny's mum leaves to get water and soap and returns
to help wash him. Johnny gets washed and all the germs
disappear.
End
of story.
Jimbo:
So do you think you will wash yourself now.

cool idea. It's nice to have the diseases as characters.
Perhaps
there could be more action?

That's
great idea to have a song that's repetitive and easy for
kids to learn but it might be better in Pidgin English.
