Description

The water is stored in the top container which releases the water into the tube. If you undo the lid which will let the water flow into the second container, then you wash you hands by putting your hands in each side of the sticks. When you are finished washing your hands, pull the Plug and the left overs can water the environment.

Why do children need to wash their hands?

Children all around the world need to wash their hands because of all the diseases going round especially in Papua New Gunea. Did you know that 1 out of 5 get sick or die from diseases from the bush or their natural environment?

· Effectiveness

It's a clear and straight forward design. Have you thought of ways of limiting the amount of water that comes out of the top tank with each hand wash.

· Durability

It appears that the supporting columns are undersized. Have you filled it with water?

· User-friendliness

Good user-friendly design.

· Communication

The photo illustrates the design well. Some information about how the water is kept in the top tank and how it is released is necessary for building.

Your comments are a bit scary.

Wara Bilong Life Project

The water is stored in a separate container, which is attached to the roof to collect the rainwater. When you need to wash your hands, you collect the rainwater from the container and pour a small amount into the top of the tube. There is a built in filter, which will filter all the water.

The next stage is to pull the piece of wood out until all the water is out. In that piece of wood is a small groove; this is where the Manuka oil will sit, when the water mixes with it. You the wash your hands in the bowl at the bottom. When you have finished there is a small tube, pull that out and the access water will go into the environment.

We believe it is very important to wash your hands as you may catch a disease and that can lead to very serious consequences. As a result of not washing hands, 1 in every 5 children die. We hope our project can help the people of Papua New Guinea to live better, cleaner lives.

John Cocks, engineer comments...

· Effectiveness

It's a clear and straight forward design. Will the water flow sufficiently slowly through the system to allow both hands to be washed with one dose of water?

· Durability

There is insufficient information to comment on how long the system would last eg are the joints strong enough to take some bumping while the children wash their hands?

· User-friendliness

Good user-friendly design.

· Communication

The photo illustrates the design well. Some information about how the pieces are joined together would help somebody else to build it.
