Flag Swamp School is a sole charge, one teacher school comprising 16 pupils aged from 5 to 11, Years 1 to 6. We are located on the east coast of Otago about half an hours drive north of Dunedin on State Highway 1.

We are Ruma Korimako, a year 4,5,6 class from Diamond Harbour School, near Christchurch. We have had a whole school focus on the web of life this year, and our class has looked at birds in particular.

Diocesan is a girls only school, with classes from Y0 - Y13. We are two Year 4 classes who are just beginning an inquiry into endangered species designed around the idea that "the existence of wildlife is affected by humans". We are very excited because we will be visiting Tiritiri Matangi Island in a couple of weeks where we hope to see many of New Zealand's special birds.

We live on Stewart Island, a very special place to live.  The Island has only one school, named Halfmoon Bay School.  The oldest student is Jahdan.  He is ten.  We have got 20 fit and active students in total.  Everyone cares about the environment because it is our natural beauty.  Jack's dad works for DOC (Department of Conservation).  He monitors the Bravo Island Yellow Eyed Penguins.  We are lucky that nearly everyone at Halfmoon Bay School has seen a yellow-eyed penguin.

Check out our penguin blog.

Room 8 Port Chalmers School - There are 22 in our class - 16 girls and only 6 boys, 12 Year 3 and 10 Year 4. Port Chalmers is a silver Enviroschool. Everyone at our school is part of an envirogoup. We look after Mussel Bay (part of Otago Harbour), we have an edible garden, some of us look after the gardens around the school, we have worm farms and bokashi buckets for our food scraps and lots more. We care for each other and the environment and we love learning! And we also have two awesome teachers!

Beckenham Primary School - Year 5&6 classes are so busy roaming through the fascinating info about the yellow-eyed penguin that they are late with this notice. Our team is working together this term to enjoy and learn about this remarkable animal.

Paremata School - We are a Year 3 and 4 class. We have been using our research skills to learn about a range of Native NZ birds including the Hoiho. We have found a range of information including habitat, status, location and have been thinking critically about similarities and differences between the birds.

We are also thinking about and designing bird feeders for our school as one of the ways to encourage population growth and keep our Native birds from becoming extinct. Today we had a guest speaker from the Karori Wildlife Sanctuary who told us that bird feeders are not a great thing to be building so we are now having a think as to how we can modify our ideas.
